In short

  • A complete single dental implant in the UK typically costs £2,000–3,500, with a median of £2,500 across 1,125 practices (TreatCompare, 2026).
  • Quotes as low as £585–600 usually cover only the implant placement, not the abutment and crown (TreatCompare, 2026).
  • Implants are usually only available privately; the NHS provides them rarely, for patients who cannot wear dentures because of conditions such as mouth cancer or an accident (NHS, 2026).
  • A full arch on four implants (All-on-4) costs £8,000–15,000 per jaw in the UK (TreatCompare, 2026).

How Much Does a Single Dental Implant Cost in the UK?

A complete single implant, meaning the implant, the abutment that connects it and the crown on top, typically costs £2,000–3,500 privately in the UK. TreatCompare’s 2026 analysis of 1,125 practices found a median of £2,500 (TreatCompare, 2026). Prices checked 25 October 2026.

What each part costs

A single implant is built from several stages, and a low headline price often leaves some of them out.

Component Typical UK cost if charged separately
Consultation and CT scan £50–250
Implant placement (surgery) £1,000–2,000
Abutment £200–500
Crown on the implant £500–1,000
Bone graft, if needed £300–800

Prices by region

London is not always the most expensive place for implants. Central London has the lowest median, £2,000, because of the number of clinics competing there, while the Midlands has the highest at £2,545 (TreatCompare, 2026).

Region Median per implant Practices sampled
Central London £2,000 221
Greater London £2,400 153
South (excl. London) £2,500 346
North £2,500 204
Midlands £2,545 201
UK overall £2,500 1,125

Can You Get Dental Implants on the NHS?

Rarely. The NHS says implants are usually only available privately and are expensive; they are sometimes provided on the NHS for patients who cannot wear dentures, for example after mouth cancer or an accident (NHS, 2026).

In practice, NHS implants are reserved for exceptional clinical cases such as cancer treatment or facial trauma, and implants for routine tooth loss or appearance must be paid for privately. The NHS Band 3 charge of £332.10 in England covers dentures and bridges, not implants (TreatCompare, 2026).

If you do not qualify, the NHS alternatives for a missing tooth are a bridge or a denture. For how these compare with an implant, see dental implant vs bridge vs denture.

How Much Do Multiple and Full-Mouth Implants Cost?

Replacing several teeth or a whole arch costs more in total but less per tooth than single implants, because a bridge or full-arch prosthesis spreads across fewer implants.

Treatment Typical UK cost Best for
Single implant £2,000–3,500 One missing tooth
Implant bridge (2 implants + bridge) £4,000–7,000 3–4 neighbouring teeth
All-on-4, per arch £8,000–15,000 All upper or all lower teeth
All-on-6, per arch £10,000–20,000 Full arch with more implant support
Mini implants £1,000–2,000 Stabilising a loose denture

Source: TreatCompare, 2026. All-on-4 and All-on-6 prices are per jaw, so a full mouth means two arches. For a detailed comparison of the two full-arch options, see All-on-4 vs All-on-6.

What Makes Dental Implants More Expensive?

Four things move an implant quote up or down most: what the quote includes, whether you need extra surgery, the implant brand and where you are treated.

  1. What the quote includes. Ask whether the price covers the consultation, CT scan, abutment and crown. The lowest headline prices usually cover the implant placement only (TreatCompare, 2026).
  2. Extra surgery. A bone graft adds about £300–800 when the jawbone is too thin to hold an implant (TreatCompare, 2026). Extractions and sinus lifts are also often charged separately. See bone grafts for dental implants and sinus lift cost.
  3. Implant brand. Premium brands such as Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Astra Tech cost the most but have the longest clinical track record; budget brands are cheaper but have less long-term outcome data (TreatCompare, 2026). See best dental implant brands.
  4. Location. Regional medians range from £2,000 in central London to £2,545 in the Midlands (TreatCompare, 2026).

Most UK practices offer finance: 0% plans usually run 6–12 months, and longer 12–60 month plans typically charge 9–15% APR (TreatCompare, 2026).

Is It Cheaper to Get Dental Implants Abroad?

Yes, often. At Dr. Wonder Clinic in Istanbul, a single implant including abutment and crown costs £1,000–2,500, and full-mouth treatment £6,000–15,000, using Nobel Biocare and Straumann implants as standard (dental implants in Turkey vs UK).

Treatment UK (median or typical) Dr. Wonder Clinic, Istanbul
Single implant with crown £2,500 median £1,000–2,500
All-on-4, per arch £8,000–15,000 See All-on-4 cost
Full mouth Two arches at UK full-arch prices £6,000–15,000

Dental Implants in Numbers

Implants are expensive, but they last: a 2019 meta-analysis estimated 96.4% of implants were still in place after 10 years (Howe et al., Journal of Dentistry, 2019).

Finding Figure Source
Median UK price, single implant £2,500 TreatCompare, 2026
UK practices in that price sample 1,125 TreatCompare, 2026
Implant survival at 10 years 96.4% Howe et al., 2019
10-year survival after adjusting for patients lost to follow-up 93.2% Howe et al., 2019
10-year survival in patients aged 65 and over 91.5% Howe et al., 2019
Implant survival at 20 years (prospective studies) 92% Kupka et al., 2024
NHS England Band 3 charge (does not cover implants) £332.10 TreatCompare, 2026

The 20-year figure comes from a 2024 meta-analysis of three prospective studies covering 237 implants; it fell to 78% when missing follow-up data were accounted for (Kupka et al., Clinical Oral Investigations, 2024).

What Most Implant Cost Guides Don’t Tell You

The headline price is the least useful number in an implant quote. What matters is what it covers and how long the result is likely to last.

A cheap quote is often an incomplete quote. Practices advertising implants from around £600 are usually quoting the implant placement alone; the abutment and crown can add £700–1,500 more (TreatCompare, 2026). Always compare the total for a finished tooth.

“Lasts a lifetime” is a sales line, not a statistic. About 96% of implants survive 10 years, but the 20-year evidence is thin and shows lower figures, especially once patients who stopped attending check-ups are counted (Howe et al., 2019; Kupka et al., 2024). Regular check-ups and good cleaning are part of the cost of keeping an implant.

Age changes the odds. Ten-year survival in patients aged 65 and over was 91.5% in the sensitivity analysis, and the authors noted the risk of implant loss could double in older age groups (Howe et al., 2019). Older patients should ask about a long-term maintenance plan, not only the placement price.

The cheapest implant brand is rarely the cheapest choice. Premium brands cost more but have the longest track records, while budget brands have less long-term outcome data (TreatCompare, 2026). Ask which brand you are getting and whether it comes with a manufacturer’s warranty.

Dental Implant Cost FAQ

How much is one tooth implant in the UK?

A complete single implant with abutment and crown typically costs £2,000–3,500 in the UK, with a median of £2,500 (TreatCompare, 2026). Bone grafting, extractions and scans may be charged on top.

Why are some implant quotes only £600?

The lowest UK quotes, around £585–600, usually cover only the surgery to place the implant. The abutment and crown that make it a usable tooth are charged separately (TreatCompare, 2026).

Will the NHS pay for my dental implant?

Usually not. The NHS provides implants only rarely, for patients who cannot wear dentures for reasons such as mouth cancer or an accident (NHS, 2026). Most patients pay privately.

How long do dental implants last?

Around 96% of implants are still in place after 10 years (Howe et al., 2019), and studies following patients for 20 years report survival of roughly 78–92% (Kupka et al., 2024). See how long dental implants last.

Can I pay for dental implants monthly?

Yes. Most UK practices offer 0% finance over 6–12 months, and longer plans of 12–60 months at around 9–15% APR (TreatCompare, 2026).

Next Step: Get an Itemised Implant Quote

The only implant price that matters is the total for a finished tooth, including scans, abutment, crown and any grafting. A CT scan and examination show whether you need bone grafting, one of the most common extra costs.
